Welcome to my site!

Here you will find information about my singing career, my voice, my repertoire and my performances. I have added some music clips to the site to give you an impression.
I sing songs in Hebrew, Ladino and Yiddish. My voice, a lyric soprano, is particularly suitable for lyrical songs. I perform as a soloist (á capella), with one or two instrumentalists, and as a singer in a theater play. I also give workshops. On the 'Repertoire' page you will find some background on my repertoire, including a brief description about the Jewish languages in which I sing.

Biography

Since 1977 I have sung in several bands and ensembles, both in the Netherlands and Israel. From 1999 I have specialized in Jewish repertoire. I sang in the former Lewandovski choir as a member and as a soloist and for eight years I have been a member of the Yiddish Vocal Ensemble ‘TOCH’. In 2009 I successfully completed the cantor training at the Levissoninstituut. Currently I have stopped working as a cantor (chazzan) for the Liberal Jewish Congregation. From 2010 to 2016 I was the lead singer in my band called ‘SimanTov’, which brought Jewish repertoire in the broadest sense of the word.

Inter cultural and inter religious work

Since several years I have dedicated myself to creating connections and a better mutual understanding between the different cultural groups in Dutch society. I have performed on events for Christian, Muslim and Jewish women. I have sung during public Iftar meals, which takes place at the end of the day during the Ramadan, on the ‘Dam’ square, the ‘Dapper Market’ and in mosques. I also wrote, together with other women, the booklet “Hoezo verschillend? Moslim en Joodse vrouwen in gesprek” (What do you mean by different? Muslim and Jewish women in conversation). This booklet is a publication of NCJW Nederland, in cooperation with the foundation for Islam and Dialogue.
Since November 2010 I was added to the team of the production ‘As I Left My Father's House’ (for more information see: site) of New Dutch Connections (www.newdutchconnections.nl). Together with two other musicians I accompany this pervasive social theatre play. Our king has honored us with a visit to the show, in the context of the Orange Foundation. I then sang (amongst other songs) a Turkish song of praise in a duet with the former imam of Utrecht. I sing such duets with imams more often, to show that people with different religions can work and live together very well. Sometimes we sing Hebrew and sometimes we sing Turkish.
In 2013, after I had sung at an interfaith peace conference for religious leaders, I was approached to participate in the project 'Planting Seeds For Healing', organized by the Nyingma Center for Tibetan Buddhism. With this project, I've sung in the former concentration camp Bergen Belsen in Germany in 2014 and in the former concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau in Poland in 2016. I also sang in the synagogue in the town of Oświęcim and in the monastery of Saint Maximilian Kolbe.

Living room concerts

You can also book me for a house concert. The intimate setting always appeals to me. I will bring only one or two instrumentalists.
